Zannis Raissis passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 77 years old. Born in Andros, Greece, he resided in Colonia before moving to Woodbridge 20 years ago. Mr. Raissis served in the Merchant Marines in Greece and was a self-employed restauranteur in the United States. He belonged to Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy; and served for many years as cantor at Saint Demetrios Church and at Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus. Mr. Raissis was predeceased by a sister, Chrisanthi Kyriazis; and a brother, John Raissis. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Eumorfa Michial Raissis; a daughter, Irene Alton, of Amherst, NH; a son, Nicholas Raissis, of Mercer Island, WA; a sister, Maria Nettos, of Athens, Greece; and five grandchildren, Leah, Emily, Zane, Evmorfia and Sophia. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with Trisagion services at 7:30 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. The funeral will be on Friday morning at 11:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed at 12:00 p.m. with services at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. Interment will be in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
