William A. Schaefer passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at his home in Woodbridge. He was 91 years old.

Born on March 19, 1934 in Rahway to the late Margaret and William Schaefer, he has resided in Woodbridge for 70 years.

Mr. Schaefer was a licensed New Jersey funeral director for over 60 years, working at many funeral homes in the Middlesex County area. He retired as sales representative with the Dodge Chemical Company in 2004 after many years there.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War; communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge; member of the Middlesex-Somerset Funeral Directors Association and British Institute of Embalmers; and was named a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rose Marie Sisko Schaefer, in 2022; son, Scott William Schaefer, in 2004; and sister, Margaret McMillan.

Surviving are his daughter, Sheryl Anne Takacs and her husband, Tom, of Milford; granddaughter, Emma Rose Schaefer, of South Amboy; sisters, Marilyn Mazur and Lois Crooks of Florida; brother, John Schaefer, of Syracuse, NY; and other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were private under the direction of Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, Woodbridge.
