Obituary

William Stephen Pavlak, 100, of Iselin passed away peacefully at his home on February 20th, surrounded by his four children and longtime caregiver.

He was born on September 27, 1920 in Perth Amboy to Andrew and Mary Pavlak and graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1939. It was also in Perth Amboy where William met and married the love of his life, Dorothy.

He was a Corporal in the 544th Bomb Squadron in the Army Air Forces during World War II.  William was a devout Catholic, and a Fourth Degree member of the Iselin Knights of Columbus Council 3639.  He worked for Chevron Oil in Perth Amboy, and Standard Oil in Pascagoula, MS for 30 years.  William retired in 1980, after which he and Dorothy spent their winters in Green Acres, FL, where he was an avid tennis player well into his eighties.

In addition to being a loyal sports fan, William was a talented artist, and a true gentleman with a sense of humor.  For William's 100th birthday, family, friends, Mayor John McCormac, First Aid, Fire, and Police Departments as well as local residents celebrated with a drive-by parade.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Rebovich) in 2015, and brother, John. William is survived by his son, William, Jr. of Iselin (partner Joanne Montgomery) and daughters, Nancy Klein (Kevin) of Pittstown, NJ, Dr. Jayne Pavlak-Schenk (Robert) of Colts Neck, NJ, and Suzanne of Philadelphia, PA, his sister Margaret Barry, and former daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Pavlak. Six grandchildren survive him: Jordan and Meghan Klein, Jessica Schenk Eastman, Jenna Schenk, Jacquelyn Schenk-Raab, Jonathan Schenk and great-grandsons, Jackson and Julian Eastman. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his devoted caregiver of ten years, Zalina, and his many dear neighbors.
