Obituary

William J. Frelish passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick surrounded by family and friends.  He was 74 years old.

Born on December 30, 1950 in Perth Amboy to the late William and Gladys O'Donnell Frelish, he was a lifelong resident of the Sewaren section of Woodbridge Township.

Mr. Frelish was a graduate of Woodbridge High School Class of 1969.  After serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, Bill was Honorably Discharged.  He then furthered his education at Kean University.  Graduating with both a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Psychology.

Bill was a Volunteer Firefighter with Woodbridge Fire Company No. 1, joining the Department in 1978. He served within the Volunteer Department in various capacities including Lieutenant of the Engine Division (1984), Captain of the Engine Division (1985), 2nd Assistant Chief (1986), 1st Assistant Chief (1987), Chief (1988), Vice President (1991,1992) and President (1993).  He was also a member of the Woodbridge Exempt Fireman's Association.

He retired as a Lieutenant from the Woodbridge Fire Department in 2005 after 30 years of service as a Professional Fulltime Fireman.

Mr. Frelish was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He owned and operated the Flim Flam Sport Fishing Charter Fishing Boat in Point Pleasant for many years.  He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with family and friends, continual learning and spending time with his English Springer Spaniel, Molly.

Bill was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Woodbridge.

William was predeceased by his parents, William and Gladys Frelish.

Survivors are his Aunt Mary "Mae" Karnas of Sewaren; cousins Mary Jane Christian and her husband Mark, of Colonia and Maureen Fuller and her husband James, of Endicott, NY; many lifelong friends and his loyal companion, Molly. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Gladys and William Frelish

Funeral services will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street Woodbridge. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Woodbridge.  Cremation will be private. The visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Woodbridge Fire Company No 1 will be conducting their Services at 1 PM at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Woodbridge Fire Company No. 1, 418 School Street, Woodbridge NJ 07095 in Mr. Frelish's memory would be greatly appreciated.
