William Downey passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 at his home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. He was 87 years old.

Born on July 1, 1937 in Newark to the late Delphine and Bertram Downey, he has resided in Colonia for 40 years.

Bill began his career as a truck driver with Strickland Motor Freight and retired from Saint Johnsbury Trucking Company in Kearny.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the post Korean War era.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Downey was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris Mae Knapp Downey, in 2009; sister, Dolores; and brothers, Bertram and Charles.

He is survived by a nephew, Glenn Downey; and cousin, Jeanne Denes.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Interment will follow in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Friday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
