Willard R. Trevena, Sr. passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 at his daughter's home in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was 87 years old.
Born in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township on June 7, 1938 to the late Martha and Francis Trevena, he resided there before moving to Toms River in 2014.
Mr. Trevena served in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1961; and was then employed as a baker until his retirement in 2001.
He was an avid bowler for many years at Woodbridge Bowling Center; diehard New York Yankees fan; and coached Woodbridge Little League and the Port Reading Saints for many years, both for his children and for others after his children had grown.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Trevena was predeceased by his sisters, Malvina Springsteel, Dorothy Peterson, Edna Toth, Evelyn Kurta and Susan Klemm; and brothers, Francis Trevena, and George Trevena.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan Capik Trevena; children, Sandra Caravela and her husband, Michael, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lora DiSilvestro and her husband, Joe, of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Willard R. Trevena, Jr. and his wife, Anne, of Beachwood; sister, Martha Psota, of Perth Amboy; grandchildren, Nicole Fancera, Ashley Collins, Michael Caravela, Toni Marie Monico, Jessica DiSilvestro, Christine Young, Courtney McIndoe, Jodi Kelly and Laurel Trevena; and twenty great grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 9:30 am from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Hopelawn. Visiting for family and friends will be on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
