Wendell Ubelhoer of Colonia, New Jersey, passed from this life at home on July 9 at the age of 74, with his loving wife of over 50 years, Dorothy, at his side.

Wendell was born on June 16, 1948 to the late Catherine (Amberg) and Karl I. Ubelhoer in Summit, New Jersey.  Wendell spent 40 years working in the family roofing business, Ubelhoer Tinning and Roofing, with his brother Karl and their father.

In 1966, Wendell met the love of his life, Dorothy (Oleyar). They wed on July 10, 1971, and welcomed their son Stephen in 1976.  Wendell spent years as a Little League coach, bowling coach, Weblos leader and Squires Counselor.

He joined St. Andrews Knights of Columbus #5088 in 1973 and was an active member for nearly 50 years.  He served in numerous roles, including Grand Knight twice and was currently Columbian Club President, and chaired multiple functions throughout the years.   Wendell truly cherished the many special friendships he made through the Knights of Columbus.

Those who knew Wendell, remember a man who was passionate about helping everyone he met.  He loved his home, and spent countless hours working on home improvement projects, ranging from small repairs to custom woodwork.

Wendell was predeceased by his brother Karl Anton. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, son Stephen and daughter-in-law Stacey, and two beautiful granddaughters, Cadence and Callie, who adoringly called him "Pop Pop".  He is also survived by his beloved sister-in-law Judy Ubelhoer, treasured nephews Karl and Kurt, and grandnephews Thomas, Daniel and Andrew in addition to honorary sons, nieces and nephews, and many very special friends.

Funeral will take place Wednesday, July 13, 2022 8:45 am from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home ( www.Costello-Koyen.com ) 399 Avenel Street, Avenel a 9:30 am Funeral Liturgy will follow at St. Andrew's R.C. Church in Avenel.  Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
