Walter S. Prokopiak III passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. He was 61 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge before moving to Colonia in 1988.

Mr. Prokopiak was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel.

Like his father before him Walter was a skillful and avid fisherman. A man of multiple talents including woodworking, painting, candle making, soup and bread creator and a skillful gardener that others turned to for advice. He was a baseball enthusiast his entire life and never missed one of his son's games. He was the "favorite uncle" of all his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors as he was always willing to lend a hand when needed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter S. Prokopiak, Jr., in 2007; and mother, Patricia J. Garnett Prokopiak, in 2018.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Ulana Kaliczynsky Prokopiak; sons, Michael of Charlotte, NC and Thomas of Colonia; brothers, Patrick J. Prokopiak and his companion, Kelly Cawley, of Avenel and Joseph P. Prokopiak and his wife, Rebecca, of Toms River; sister, Deborah L. Prokopiak-Gomez and her husband, Frank, of South Plainfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home ( www.costello-koyen.com ) 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Funeral services will be on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Resurrection at Saint Andrew Catholic Church. Cremation will be private.
