Virginia Anderson Goodman Deverin passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018. She was 93 years old.
Born in Woodbridge on November 15, 1924 to the late Raymond and Helen Neary Anderson, she was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Deverin was a graduate of Woodbridge High School and Katherine Gibbs School, New York. She was a homemaker, but after the death of her first husband worked for Swift and Company and Palmisano and Goodman, PA before retiring in l989.
She was a lifelong member of Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge; and a lifelong member of Saint James Rosary Society and of Court Mercedes #769, Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of JFK Medical Center; and volunteered at Saint James Food Pantry for many years and at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison for 15 years.
Virginia was a kind and selfless woman whose warm heart and gentle soul touched the lives of so many. Her greatest blessings were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved them all unconditionally, and spent her life making sure they knew how much they meant to her. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Girard Goodman, DPM, in 1975 and Thomas Deverin in 1996; and sister, Mary Joan Dolan in 2017.
Surviving are her children, Robert Goodman and his wife, Paula, Joanne Horvath and her husband, Stephen, Kathleen Dempsy and her husband, Philip and Thomas Deverin and his wife, Patricia; grandchildren, Maureen Goodman-Sahm (Charles), Brian Goodman (Lizette), Gregory Goodman (Elizabeth), Gerard Horvath (Tara), Scott Horvath (Jennifer), Ryan Horvath (Janine), Timothy Horvath (Annie), Jeffrey Horvath, James Deverin and Ian Elcock; and blessed great grandchildren, Caroline Sahm, Colette Sahm, Gabrielle Goodman, Brady Goodman, Landen Horvath, Aubrey Horvath, Abby Goodman, Alyvia Horvath, Luke Horvath, Jack Goodman, Ruby Goodman, Ryan Horvath, Jack Deverin, Thomas Deverin, and Melissa Rodriquez; great great grandson, Mason Rodriquez, and nephews, David and Bernard Dolan.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations made to Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center or Saint James Food Pantry in her memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
