Virginia A. Chavan passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at her home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township . She was 70 years old.

Born in Jamaica, NY, she has resided in Colonia most of her life.

Mrs. Chavan was employed in the Human Resources Department at I.T.C. in Edison for 20 years before retiring in 2008; and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Marie Chavan, in 1979; her parents, Richard and Isabelle Wright Given; and a sister, Florence Given.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, John R. Chavan; two sons, John R. Chavan of Colonia and Richard Chavan and his wife, Kathleen, of Colonia; a sister, Laura Burke, of Hilton Head, SC; and six grandchildren, Joseph Brannigan, Tyler Williams, Jake Williams, Kaitlyn Brannigan, Jessica Chavan and Corey Chavan.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home ( www.Costello-koyen.com ), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Interment will follow in Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
