Violet "Jerry" Smelson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the home of her daughter and son in law in Woodbridge. She was 99 years old. Born in Linden, she resided in Union before moving to Woodbridge in 2007. Mrs. Smelson was employed as a personal shopper with BZ Fashion in Linden and Stan Somers Clothing Store in Union prior to her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband, James Smelson, in 2007. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Murgacz, of Woodbridge; two sons, Robert Smelson of Freehold and Gerald Smelson of Wilmington, NC; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. Interment will follow at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
