Vertebelle was born on May 5th, 1944 in Hopeton District Saint James Parish, Jamaica. One of several siblings, Vertebelle loved to climb trees and hunt for sugar cane. She resided in Jamaica for her childhood and after her marriage in 1974 decided the United States would offer a great life for her husband and son.

She began work as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Roosevelt Care Center where she worked for over 25 years. Known to friends as Delores she had a giving heart and passion to serve others. Vertebelle lived in Edison, Perth Amboy and found her forever home in Sewaren, NJ . After her retirement, she continued to work with families with seniors assisting in whatever way she could. She was very active within her church community cooking her traditional Jamaican rice and peas and curry chicken. Another favorite pastime for Vertebelle is shopping. Vertebelle loves to shop and it is evident when you visit her home.

She had a love for crochet, making blankets for the hospital, knit caps, crotchet arrangements for living room decors, and clothing for friends, strangers, young and old. Keeping her hands busy was very important to her and made her happy. Those who knew her well knew she had a story to tell, never forgetting a detail and could always keep your attention. You would hear them often and knew the story by heart but still the details were fun to hear.

Vertebelle is survived by her only son Cevet known to all as Paul, who resides in Stafford, Virginia with his wife Caroline. Vertebelle's two grandchildren Joshua (14) and Nia (10) meant the world to her. She would travel to Marine Corps bases across the United States and as far away as Okinawa, Japan to visit and spend quality time with her beloved grandchildren.

Also mourning her passing are sisters, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins far and wide and friends who became family.

She will be missed dearly.
