Obituary

Timothy Owen Nerney, the man, the myth, the legend lost his final battle Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. He was 54 years old.

Born in New York City, he resided in Woodbridge for the past 23 years.

Timmy served in the United States Army and was employed as an Elevator Foreman and was a proud union member of Local #1 IUEC in Long Island City, NY, for 30 years before retiring in 2011. His last installation project was the elevators at the Freedom Tower.

He was active in the Woodbridge Community as a Coach in Little League Baseball, Port Reading Saints Football, Rec basketball and street hockey.  He was also a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge.

The Nerney & Laties families were all heartbroken that the toughest guy they ever knew has left them and they are devastated!  Timmy aka "The Nern" who spent his whole life doing the right thing did the ultimate good thing on his last day!  Now he is the miracle man to many families that they don't even know!  Timmy donated his organs.

He was predeceased by his parents, Neal and Elba Graciani Nerney, and a sister Theresa (TC) Nerney Melfi.

Surviving are his wife and best friend of 29 years, Felicia Laties Nerney; four sons, Justin and his partner Danielle Higgins of Port Reading, Christopher and his wife Samantha of Colonia, Matthew and Timothy of Woodbridge, Ryan (5th son) Gastberger of Kenilworth; two brothers, Jim and his wife Peggy Ann of Middletown, Patrick and his wife Stephanie of Ramsey and a grandson, Cameron Nerney.  Father and Mother-in-law William and Maria Laties of Perth Amboy, four brothers and sister-in-laws; Michael and Mary Laties of Gilbert, Arizona, Joe and Michelle Laties of Hillsborough, Jimmy and Raquel Laties of Port Reading, Billy Laties and his partner Maria Ordieres of Helmetta, Sister-in-law Debbie Laties of Woodbridge, many nieces, nephews, Riley and Remo his two favorite dogs and many friends.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 am at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint James Cemetery, Hopelawn. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
