Stephen J. Pokol, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 78 years old.

Born in Fords, he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township since 1981.

He was a graduate of Woodbridge High School and holds several school records for his achievments in track; and was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was employed as a Chemical Operator for Mobile Chemical in Edison for 25 years, retring in 1995.

Mr. Pokol was predceased by his son, Stephen J. Pokol, Jr., in 2007; his twin sister, Charlotte Weaver, in 2002; and brother, James Pokol, in 2016.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Cheryl Cohen Pokol; daughter, Cherylynn Pokol and her fiance Michael Manzi, of North Brunswick; and sister, Janet Melchisky, of South River.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( www.costello-greiner.com ), 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
