Stephen J. Horvath, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at his home in Woodbridge. He was 74 years old.

Born in New Brunswick on March 14, 1951 to the late Margaret (nee Varga) and Stephen J. Horvath, Sr., he resided in Highland Park before moving to Woodbridge in 1982.

Mr. Horvath served as a patrolman with the Highland Park Police Department for several years and then was employed as a sergeant with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office until his retirement in 2014.

He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge; and belonged to Middlesex Council 857, Knights of Columbus.

A devoted family man, Stephen adored spending time with his wife, sons and, especially, his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Edward Horvath

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Joanne Goodman Horvath; sons, Gerard Horvath and his wife, Tara, of Hummelstown, PA, Scott Horvath and his wife, Jennifer, of Woodbridge, Ryan Horvath of Woodbridge, Timothy Horvath of Medford and Jeffrey Horvath of Woodbridge; sister, Linda Johnson; brother, Richard Horvath; and beloved grandchildren, Landen, Aubrey, Alyvia, Luke, Ryan, Ben Nate, and Camden.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
