Stella Skonieczny Szwast passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014 at her home in Woodbridge. She was 80 years old. Born in Staten Island, NY, she has resided in Woodbridge since 1967. Mrs. Szwast was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge and was an active volunteer there as well. She worked the Monday Night Bingo for several years, and was then a driving force in the organization of the Thursday Night Bingo in 1973. She also served in the Saint James School kitchen and served as a Eucharistic Minister for 16 years until 1997. On October 5, 1975 Stella began working as executive secretary at Saint James, a position she held up to the time of her death. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward F. Szwast, Sr., in 2001; and a brother, John Skonieczny. Surviving are a son, Edward F. Szwast, Jr. and his wife, Luanne, of Fair Lawn; a daughter, Sharon Vlasak, of Green Brook; and three beloved grandchildren, Brendan and Thomas Vlasak and Lauren Szwast. Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www.costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue in Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. James R.C.
