Stanley M. Fialkowski passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. He was 84 years old. Born in Elizabeth, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Fialkowski graduated from Jefferson High School in Elizabeth and enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a recruiter in Times Square in New York City. Stanley worked with Schlem Funeral Home, Jersey City and Higgins Funeral Homes in Plainfield and Elizabeth. He was also employed as an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., but the job he loved the most was being a toll collector on the Garden State Parkway at Exit 145. He left to retire at the age of 81 after Governor Christie cut pay and benefits for state workers turning living wage jobs into part-time no benefits positions. He was a third degree member of Council 3197, Knights of Columbus, Hillside for nearly 60 years. Mr. Fialkowski was predeceased by his parents, Marion and Juzefa Fialkowski; a sister, Louise Fialkowski, MD; and two brothers, William and Theodore Fialkowski. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Forte; and beloved grandson, Dylan Forte. Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 9:45 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www.costello-greiner.com) 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
