Shirley A. Nagy, nee Gursaly, died on Friday, June 14, 2024 at her home in Fords. She was 88 years old.

Born on Fulton Street in Woodbridge on October 27, 1935, Shirley attended the Woodbridge School System and was a 1953 graduate of the Barron Avenue High School.

While a sophomore, she and two friends, Margaret Kertecz and Ruth Hurdlika started the Woodbridge Youth Organization, trying to establish a venue for youth-oriented activities. More than 150 joined, and the membership cards are still in Shirley's home.

Shirley met her future husband, Andrew J. Nagy, Jr., in the club. After graduating high school she was secretary to Fred P. Buttonbach, branch manager of the Woodbridge National Bank.

Shirley and Andrew married on September 18, 1954 at Temple Baptist Church in Perth Amboy, NJ.

In 1958 Andrew was drafted into the U.S. Army. His permanent duty station was Arlington Hall Station in Virginia where Shirley was employed by the U.S. Army Security Agency with Top Secret Security Clearance. Their children, Andrew and Tara arrived in 1961 and 1963. Shirley's life centered around caring for family, her children's schooling and church.

The children were educated at Timothy Christian School, where Shirley was secretary to the school's two principals, Gloria Vis and David Gottshall for 13 years. She saw the school grow from 69 to more than 600 students.

Shirley's life included lifelong church membership as choir member, Sunday School teacher and women's church organization participant. She also served on the Board of Sessions and the Heritage Committee at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge. She was also a member of the Woodbridge Historical Association.

Shirley's retirement included international travel and day trips.

In 2003 she experienced the first of three bouts with cancer. She beat them all.

In 2005 her grandson, Lucas, was born. Shirley spent many happy hours with him playing Monopoly and enjoyed his violin playing on many occasions.

Shirley was looking forward to her 70th Wedding Anniversary in September and 89th birthday in October.

She was predeceased by her parents, Augusta and John Gursaly; sisters, Marie Sinka and Patricia Kaufmann; and nephew, Robert Sinka.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew; son, Andrew Jay Nagy; daughter, Tara Ann Chuidian and her husband, Dr. Francis X. Chuidian; grandson, Lucas A. Chuidian; brother, John Gursaly and his wife, Joanne; brothers in law, Robert Sinka and Frank Kaufmann; nieces, Carolyn Tyrkala, Darlene Pokorny and Teresa Sinka; and nephews, Frank and Eric Kaufmann.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday evening June 21, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge, located at 600 Rahway Ave in Woodbridge NJ.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
