Ruth Marie Barrett, formerly of Avenel, NJ, ended her Earthly journey on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at home under the loving care of her family and Hospice Care in Inverness, Florida. She was 89 years old.

She was born in Hillside NJ and spent the better part of her life raising her family in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township before moving to Florida 34 years ago.

Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband William F. Barrett, her parents Charles and Edith Smedile and siblings Gloria, Adelaide, Barbara and Franklin. As well as her loving companion Harry Comiskey.

Surviving Ruth are her children; Patricia Battito of Port Reading, Judith Policelli (Mark), William Barrett (Joanne) of Delaware, and Lisa Fowler of Avenel, NJ and her 12 Grandchildren: Sean Battito, Heather Canfield, Anthony Battito, Christopher Policelli, Adrienne Policelli, Kendel Barrett, Lorin Obler, Gavin Barrett, Wm. Taylor Fowler, Brett Fowler, Lacey Sipla and Kayla Finkes. Ruth was also greatly loved by her surviving 15 Great Grandchildren, Brothers Patrick Smedile, Robert Smedile and many loving nieces and nephews.

A lifelong servant and supporter of the community, Ruth was a long time and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel where she served as a Youth Advisor, Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. She always had an open door where coffee and compassion were generously shared. In Florida, Ruth remained an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness.

Her last years in Inverness Florida were also filled with many loving friends and extended family.

In addition to home, family and church, Ruth ran a successful vacation rental business in Cape May NJ for many years becoming dear friends to many of her customers at Shade Tree Village.

Due to COVID-19 a memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Ruth's life.
