Rosemarie Merz Eckhardt of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Genesis Care Center in Westfield. She was 89 years old. Born in Cornwall, England; She resided in Iselin and Florida before moving to Avenel 12 years ago. She was a member of the Woman's Royal English Navy during World War II. Mrs. Eckhardt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel. She was predeceased by her husbands George Merz and Elihu Eckhardt, her parents Thomas and Mabel Mary Martin Doble, and a brother Leslie Doble. She is survived by three daughters Joymarie Collier and her husband William of Sarasota, FL, Dorothy Merz of Flemington, and Lynne Merz of Avenel; four sons Charles G. Merz of Beachwood, Raymond Leslie Merz and his wife Nanette of South Plainfield, Thomas Edward Merz and his wife Lori of Avenel, and Michael Anthony Merz of Fords; 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Funeral will take place Thursday, July 25, 2013 11:00 a.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Interment will be in Bayview-New York Bay Cemetery, Jersey City.
