Rose Lega Morrone of Woodbridge passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 12. 2026. She was 93 years old.

She was the youngest of 11 children, born on October 2, 1932 in Jersey City to the late Daniel and Anna Ruzyla Lega, who immigrated to the United States from Galicia, Austria, Poland in 1910. Rose met her late husband, Vincent, USMC veteran of the Korean war, at Federal Machine, Jersey City, NJ, their mutual place of employment. They were married on May 21, 1955 and lived in Jersey City before moving to Avenel with their sons Richard and Paul, and later to Marlboro. Rose and her sons relocated to Woodbridge in 1998, after the death of her husband.

Mrs. Morrone was employed as a note reader for Richard Guinta Court Reporting in Metuchen for 25 years before retiring in 1997. She frequently served as secretary, bookkeeper, and customer service representative at Richard and Paul’s fabrication shop, Acme Manufacturing in Port Reading, NJ.

She was a woman of faith, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Woodbridge. She believed in the power of prayer and prayed to the Blessed Mother Mary daily, and always added, “Mother Mary Pray For Us” at the conclusion of Grace being said at each meal. She loved to read and visited the local libraries on a weekly basis to borrow books, which she actually read cover to cover and always returned on time (not). She served as a Trustee for the Sewaren Library for many years, and was a founding member of “Friends of The Library” in Woodbridge, which is still in existence today.

Rose liked to cook, and eat, always experimenting with new recipes and trying to get you to go out with her to try any new food establishment within a 50 mile radius. She was known as the families’ “foodie”, even incorporating the label “luncher” into her email address. She loved parties, holidays, and family gatherings, breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Rose loved the USA and everything patriotic and made every effort to attend local ceremonies on patriotic holidays. She somehow even managed to give birth to her son, Paul, on July 4th, at home.

Rose did not like or make an effort to be in the spotlight. She was a down to earth, friendly person and naturally drew people into her world with her warm, outgoing and pleasant personality. She was not “flashy” and always appeared polished, wearing outfits with just the right balance of style and class.

Rose loved being a Mom and Grandmother, always doting on her sons and grandson. She always did her best to keep them from worrying about her. Even in her frailest moments, she would look up and smile and light up like a Christmas tree when one of her boys would walk into the room, and say “I’m doing okay”, when you could plainly see she was not.

In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her husband, Vincent Morrone, in 1996; sisters, Eva Sawicki, Pauline Perlman, Helen Calabro, Mary Lussi, Nellie Martelle and Anna Bordak; and brothers John Lega, Charles Lega, Mike Lega, and Nick Lega. She was also predeceased by her four-legged companions, Sandy the dog, and two rescued kittens, Cookie and Daisy, who she gave forever homes.

Surviving are her sons, Richard Morrone of Woodbridge and Paul Morrone and his wife, Mary Lou, of Woodbridge, and grandson, Vincent Thomas Morrone and the latest addition Lance the cat.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Entombment will follow in Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel. Visiting hours will be on Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home

Rose had a soft spot for animals and supported Angel Paws in Colonia, NJ.
