Robert G. Zdanowski passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. He was 86 years old.

Born on December 31, 1935 in Bayonne, NJ to the late Mary and Frank Zdanowski, he has resided in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township for the past 62 years.

Mr. Zdanowski was a graduate of Bayonne High School.  Upon completion of his studies in the field of Drafting and Design Engineering in NYC, he was employed as a draftsman with Western Electric in Kearny where he met his wife, Gert. Later, he was employed as a Project Manager with AT&T in Newark for 33 years before retiring.

He was a communicant of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Colonia; served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, KY, and later served in the US Army Reserves. He was also a member of the Woodbridge Senior Citizens.

Robert was a supportive, caring person and would help anyone out as he was a "Jack of all trades." In his free time, he enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, summers in L.B.I. with his family, playing the lottery, making memories with his grandchildren, spending time with his dog, Bella, working on puzzles, and was also an impressive, self-taught handyman. He had a lifetime love of sports and was an avid bowler and baseball player. Known especially for his sense of humor and witty personality, he could always make anyone laugh or smile.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene Zdanowski and Donald Zdanowski; and his son-in-law, Kenneth Testa.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gertraut Hoffmann Zdanowski; daughters, Laura Smith of Newtown, PA and Christine Testa of Old Bridge, NJ; grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Rebecca, Robert, Julianne, Kenneth, Andrew, and Natalie; and great-grandson, Christian.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel, NJ. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, Colonia, NJ. Entombment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Deborah Heart and Lung Center or The American Lung Association in Mr. Zdanowski's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
