Robert J. O'Brien, known to all as "Bobby", died on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 60 years old. A lifelong resident of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township, Bobby was employed as a professional truck driver; and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an avid collector of model cars, as well as a devoted fan of NHRA races. Surviving are his parents, Anthony and Carole O'Brien; a brother, James O'Brien and his partner, Gaby Steib, of Colonia; a sister, Liz, and her husband, Kevin Barry, of Westfield; a daughter, Anna Marie O'Brien, of Bath, NY; a son, Evan J. O'Brien, of Canisteo, NY; two grandchildren, Joshua O'Brien and Olivia Marie Hakes; and two nieces, Katie and Caroline Barry. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
