Obituary

Robert Thomas Herterich, Sr. passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at his daughter's home in Celebration, FL. He was 88 years old. Born on March 20, 1936 in the Valley section of Orange, NJ to the late Agnes (Dunn) and Bernard Herterich. He resided in Woodbridge, NJ for many years before moving to Jackson, NJ in 2016.

A graduate of Our Lady of the Valley Grammar School and High School in Orange, NJ, Bob was employed as a steamfitter for many years and was in the first apprenticeship class of Steamfitters local 475. He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge.

Bob impacted the lives of many of the youth in Woodbridge. He was associated with Woodbridge Little League for over 50 years. Throughout those years, Bob volunteered his time as President, Player Agent, VP of Girls Softball, Coach and equipment manager, and other volunteer activities. Bob coached numerous successful All-Star teams that traveled the county and state. He coached in the Woodbridge Basketball League for many years as well. As a testament to Bob's dedication, many of his former players kept in touch with him over the years even as adults. There is also a Woodbridge little league field named after him. Bob was a founding member of Mensa Weekend Meeting Club on Zoom.

When moving to Jackson, Bob and his wife would take weekly trips to the local cinema and Longhorn Steakhouse. Bob prayed the rosary daily, was an avid reader, Notre Dame football fan, excellent cook, expert crossword puzzle solver, and sport fanatic. He visited Hawaii, California, New York City, Celebration, and Disney World, but his happiest place was being with his loving wife Jean. Bob never missed an opportunity to make people laugh. He passed down his wit to his children, grandchildren, and now even his great grandchildren.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Jean Herterich of 63 years. Surviving him are his five children, Robert T. Herterich, Jr. and Lori of Manchester, NJ; Mary Jean and Mark Silidker of New Hope, PA; Michael Herterich and Monica of Charlotte, NC; William Herterich and Laura of Hillsborough, NJ; and Karen and Scott Blackman of Candia, NH. He is also survived by his three siblings, Richard Herterich and Ann of Colonia, NJ; Clare O'Grady of Wanaque, NJ; and John Herterich and Janice of Hillsborough, NJ. Lastly, Bob is survived by fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
