Obituary

Robert P. Figarotta passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 with his family at his side at his home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. He was 84 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 29, 1939 to the late Frank and Concetta "Kate" Morales Figarotta, he has resided in Woodbridge Township since the age of 2.

Mr. Figarotta was a graduate of Woodbridge High School, Class of 1957, Mount Saint Mary's University, Class of 1961, where he majored in Political Science and minored in Economics and Philosophy and was a 4 year member of the college band, and Georgetown Law Center, Washington DC, Class of 1964, where he served as Research Assistant for Professor Treatise on Contract Law and was involved in Student Governmant as Governor at Large in his third year. Upon completion of his education, he returned to Woodbridge where he entered private practice from 1969 until he was appointed to the judiciary in 1981.

Upon appointment to the judiciary, Mr. Figarotta served in the Middlesex County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court until 1985 when he was appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court, Middlesex vicinage until his retirement in 2003. After his retirement he served on recall from 2004 until 2018 in the Family Division and in the Intensive Supervision Program.

His judicial committee appointments included the Criminal Practice Committee, Family Practice Committee and Criminal Practice Revision Committee; and was Judicial Member of Middlesex County Family Courthouse Committee.

He was elected to Woodbridge Board of Education in 1969 where he served as a member of the Building and Grounds Committe, of the Curiculum Committee, and Board of Education President from 1970-1971.

He was an avid New York Giants fan who enjoyed spending time with his family and playing Golf.

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his sister, Irene Ann Figarotta Pearse, in April of last year.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Susan Schlatter Figarotta; children, Cara Lynn Lieggi and her husband, Nicholas, of Colonia and Robert F. Figarotta and his wife, Jennifer, of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; grandchildren, Robert W. Figarotta, William F. Figarotta, Nicholas V. Lieggi, Cassandra Lieggi and Zach Lieggi; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schlatter; nieces Karina Pearse and Dana Rasp (Jeff); nephews Richard Schlatter, David Schlatter (Sandra) and Thomas Schlatter (Laura). and many loving cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

A Memorial Visitation for family and friends will take place on Saturday January 13, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street Woodbridge, NJ 07095.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Mr. Figarotta's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
