Richard E. Walsh of Colonia, NJ passed away February 27, 2021 at his home at the age of 68.
Born in Newark, NJ and then lived in Hillside, NJ before moving to Colonia 36 years ago.
He worked for Carpenter Technology and then for Lightning Fast Services for 30 years before retiring in 2016.
Richard was a member of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church.
He loved to cook, barbecue and spend time with family and friends. Richard was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He loved to work around the house on projects and help family and friends. He enjoyed going to Atlantic City.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary McAllister, his father Richard J. Walsh, his stepmother, Joan Walsh, his sister Linda Borowski, his brothers Anthony Walsh, Timothy Walsh and his niece Debbie Lysick and his nephew Michael J. Hanley.
Richard was married to the love of his life. He and Patricia have been together for 52 years since meeting in Irvington, NJ.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Hanley Walsh, his brother Michael Walsh of Elizabeth, NJ, his nephews, James Borowski and Sean Walsh, his nieces, Erica Lysick and Mary Walsh and a dear friend of the family, Lloyd Avery. Richard considered his in-laws as family - Michael & Barbara, Jim & Jayne, Kevin & Debbie, Ed & Rose and Kathy & Tom as well as his nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his stepsister and stepbrothers, Linda Rodriguez, Jimmy, Richard, Alan and Freddy Schmidtberg.
He was more than a brother-in-law to the Hanley family. He was a man the family looked up to. He had the strength to survive numerous illnesses and continued to have a positive attitude and always made us laugh. He never gave up.
Richard will be sadly missed and will always remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The funeral will take place Wednesday, March 3, 2021 8:45 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A 9:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. John Vianney R.C. Church 420 Inman Avenue, Colonia.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
The Committal service will take place at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.
