Richard L. Platt, a retired Police Officer, business owner and entrepreneur, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 while at this home. He was 83 years old.

Born in Waterbury, CT on July 15, 1939 to the late Mildred and Rowland H. Platt, he resided in Carteret for most of his life.

Richard was employed with the Carteret Police Department for 25 years, before retiring as a Detective Sergeant in 1994. An entrepreneur at heart, he also owned and operated Quality Auto of Carteret with his brother Rowland,  and Polar Cup Ice Cream with his wife Sharon, for many years.

He was an avid automobile racing enthusiast, and spent much of his time with his friends and family at Raceway Park in Old Bridge. He was also a longtime collector of classic cars.

Richard spent his later years as a loving and devoted grandfather.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Dennis Platt and sister in law Patricia Huszar Platt.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sharon Pallino Platt; brother, Rowland Platt of Carteret; children, Mitchell Platt and his wife, Emily, of Fords, Amanda Edge of Port Reading and Sharyn Leigh Lennox and her husband, John, of Old Bridge; and loving grandchildren, Ava Marie, Hunter, Hudson, Johnny, Jaxon, Julian and Tanner.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.  A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Cremation will be private. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions to ASPCA in Richard 's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
