Richard F. Miller passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at his home in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township with his family at his side. He was 89 years old.
Born on a farm in Elk Mountain, PA, he resided in Bayonne before moving to Avenel 60 years ago.
Mr. Miller was a proud US Naval Air Force veteran of World War II; and was a carpenter for many years and even built his own home. He was then employed as a driver with the Woodbridge Township Department of Sanitation for 28 years before retiring in 1989.
Richard enjoyed taking care of his large vegetable garden and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Menig Miller, in 1996; a sister, Betty Faith; and three brothers, James, Carlisle and Garold Miller.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Critelli, of Avenel; three sons, Gary Miller and his wife, Rose, of Forest City, PA, David Miller and his wife, Darlene, of Pleasant Mount, PA and Dennis Miller and his wife, Diane, of Avenel; a sister, June Tucker; seven grandchildren, Selina and her husband, Jim, Tyler, Laurel, Danielle, DJ, Stephanie and her husband, Ron, and Scott; two great grandchildren, Julianna and Sophia; his goddaughter, Joyce LaRose; beloved friend, Dennis Chasey; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home , 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
