Richard G. "Rich" Coleman passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2015 at JFK Medical Center in Edison surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old. Born in Perth Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of Woodbridge Township, growing up in Fords and moving to Port Reading to raise his family after marrying the love of his life, his wife, Mary, in 1963. Mr. Coleman was a 1953 graduate of Woodbridge High School; served in the United States Army and United States Navy Reserves; and was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Port Reading. He joined the Woodbridge Township Police Department in 1961 where he served his community as patrolman for 27 years before retiring in 1989 to enjoy 25 years of family-filled retirement. Rich was an avid hunter and fisherman, passions he passed on to his son. He also enjoyed outdoor camping and travel, touring the United States extensively. He particularly loved extended car trips out West and the Southeast. He and Mary were also fortunate enough to have visited Egypt, Italy, Turkey and the Caribbean. Rich is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 52 years, Mary Spina Coleman; two daughters, Cindy Conter and her husband, Wayne "Ducky" and Tammy Nelson; a son, Rich Coleman and his wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Brianna, Ashley, Alyssa and her husband, Joey, Daniel, Matthew, Haley, Natalie and Julia. Rich was also lucky enough to have enjoyed two years with his great grandson, Richard Joseph "RJ". Rich also leaves behind a cherished sister, Patricia Sebestyen and her husband, Ernie; dear cousins, Harry, Marie, Sharon, Ken, Pam and their families, as well as beloved nieces, nephews and countless friends including life-long buddies, Rich Rankin and Donnie Peterson. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Port Reading. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers Rich would have preferred donations to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
