Obituary

Raymond Lubeski Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, NJ, surrounded by his family.  He was 85 years old.

Ray was born to the late Edward, and Anna Lubeski, on July 26, 1937, in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania.  He was a graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School, Class of 1955.  He married his wife Carol in 1960, and they moved to Brooklyn, NY, to start their family.  In 1965 they settled in the prestigious Estate section of Port Reading, NJ, and remained there until they both retired to Manahawkin, NJ.

Growing up, Ray loved sports.  In high school he ran track and played football. He was able to compete at the Penn Relays on his track team, and played defensive end on his football team.  He was a proud member of the hall of fame 1954 State Champion football team.

Raymond was a retired Navy veteran and graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, in NYC.  He worked in Manhattan for 40+ years in the garment industry, holding many positions from pattern maker to operations manager.  One of his earliest jobs was working for a company owned by Phil Iselin, who was part owner of the NY Jets.  This was thought to have been the beginning of the long-term disappointment as a family of Jets fans.

Ray was a founding member of the Port Reading First Aid Squad and Past Grand Knight with Port Reading Knights of Columbus Council 5809.  He was also long-time coach with the St James/Woodbridge/Port Reading Saints Pop Warner organization in the 70's and 80's.  He loved being around people.  He always said, life's too short to not spend time with your family and friends, and enjoy some wine.  He was a master wine taster, tasting glasses of wine daily to perfect his craft.  He was very artistic and loved to draw and paint.  At an early age he was diagnosed with macular degeneration which limited his vision, but he never let it deter his creativity.  Later in life he started writing books and self-published them.   He also loved his Jets family, and was a founding member of the famous Port Reading, JET NUTS bus.

He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Carol, of 60 years, he was predeceased by his parents in 1995 and 1997, and his brother, Edward, in 2015. Surviving are his sons, Mark Lubeski and Cathy Barra, Brian Lubeski and Karen, Matthew Lubeski and Pamela, and Raymond Lubeski Jr and Lisa.  His 11 loving Grandchildren, Shaun, Mark, Brian, Abbey, Kyle, Matthew, Michael, Faith, Raymond, Madison, and Christopher, and 3 Great Grandchildren, Soleil, Selene, and Shaun. Also, his beloved nephews and nieces, Edward (Ward), Lynn, Jeffrey, and Cristine (Crissy).

Funeral services are private, and under the direction of Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, Woodbridge.
