Raymond E. Smith passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 74 years old.

Born in Johnstown, PA on October 4, 1949 to the late Esther and William Smith, he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for 52 years.

Mr. Smith served as police officer with the Woodbridge Police Department for 23 years prior to his retirement. He was also co-owner of Nieces Piece's Rahway, NJ.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for two tours of duty during the Vietnam War as a Tank Commander; and belonged to Post 87, American Legion and Woodbridge, Post 4410, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Woodbridge. He was also active with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. He was a former member of Rahway Center Partnership.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Steadman; and brothers, Frederick Smith and Robert Smith.

Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Denise Smith (nee Pacansky); daughter, Heather Brito and her husband, Anthony and beloved granddaughter, Giavanna Brito of South Plainfield; sister, Patricia Williams, of Monroe.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday October 13, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue in Woodbridge. On Saturday October 14, 2023 Mass of Resurrection will take place at 10:00 a.m, Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations to Wounded Warrior Foundation (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/) would be greatly appreciated by his family.
