Phyllis "Yi" Matchko passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge. She was 100 years old.

Born in Port Reading on September 26, 1924 to the late Angelina and Matteo DeNittis, she resided there before moving to Iselin in 2018.

Mrs. Matchko was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Port Reading.

In her youth she enjoyed playing softball; and was an avid NY Yankee fan and liked to play bingo and try her luck with scratch-off lottery tickets.

Yi took great pleasure in raising a loving household where she was boss and was supportive of everything her family wanted to achieve.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank Matchko, in 1994; sisters, Jennie DeNittis, Carmella Martino and Elizabeth Kwiatkowski; and brothers, Frank Spadafranca, Michael DeNittis and Ralph DeNittis.

Surviving are her daughters, Angela Matchko of Iselin and Michele Tarrant and her husband, Daniel, of Carteret; sister, Margaret Somers, of Sayreville; granddaughters, Tara McGinn and her husband, Shaun, and Kristle Wilkinson and her husband, Jonathan; and great granddaughters, Hannah McGinn and Daniela, Brianna and Alexa Wilkinson.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Funeral liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Port Reading. Interment will be in Saint James Cemetery, Woodbridge. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Mrs. Matchko's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
