Peter G. Schmitt passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at his home in Woodbridge. He was 74 years old.

Born in Jersey City, he has resided in Woodbridge for the past 45 years.

Mr. Schmitt was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was an avid fishermen, and enjoyed gardening

He was employed as a Sheet Metal Mechanic for Sheet Metal Workers Local #25 in Carlstadt, NJ for 40 years, retiring 13 years ago.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lillian Miller Schmitt.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Joyce Szenasi Schmitt; a daughter, Lori Mitros, and her husband, Gregory, of Pequannock; a son, James Schmitt, and his wife, Josephine, of Woodbridge; a sister, Marianne Cleary, of Sarasota, FL; a brother, George Schmitt, of Manchester, MO; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Bethany, Zoe and Derek.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, May 2, 2016 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( www.costello-greiner.com ), 44 Green Street (at Barron Avenue) in Woodbridge. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge. Interment will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation hours will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to St. James Food Pantry, 174 Grove Street, Woodbridge, NJ 07095 in Mr. Schmitt's memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.
