Peter Garruto passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 93 years old.

Born on May 28, 1928 to the late Eleanor and Peter Garruto in Nutley, he resided there and in Woodbridge before being taken under the good care of the staff at Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center two years ago.

Mr. Garruto was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was employed as a fabricator for Thomas Edison in West Orange many years ago and was then employed with Glenro, Incorporated in Paterson before retiring in 2008.

He was a devoted and loving son, brother and uncle; and faithful communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge, where he attended the daily 12:10 Mass and served as a scheduled Eucharistic Adorer. He also served as a member of his Neighborhood Watch and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and was interested in animal rescue.

Surviving are his loving nieces and their husbands, Darlene and Joe Wirzbicki and Donna and Anthony Speranza; great nieces, Dawn Wirzbicki and Dana Matina and her husband, Joe; great niece, Kristina Villanueva; great nephews, Tony and Andrew Speranza and Brian Villanueva; and great, great nieces, Ava, Charlotte and Grace Matina. Peter also leaves his great neighbors on Bamford Avenue, with a special thank you to Dwight and his close and dear friends, Mitzi and Rose.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint James Cemetery, Woodbridge. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
