Norman W. Petersen passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. He was 87 years old. Born in Sewaren, he has resided in Woodbridge for the past 42 years. Mr. Petersen worked for many years as a train engineer with ASARCO in Perth Amboy and then worked for several years with DuPont Corporation in Sayreville and Spectrum Labs in Piscataway, before retiring in 1993. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perth Amboy, where he sang in the choir for 53 years; belonged to the Market Street Senior Citizens in Perth Amboy; and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 704th TROB. Mr. Petersen was predeceased by his wife, Irene Hrabovski Petersen, in 1996; a sister, Elaine Schanck; and a brother, Richard Petersen. Surviving are his children, Sally Petersen of Edison, Beth Petersen of Woodbridge, Michael Petersen of Turnersville and Debra Ravelle of Parlin; a sister, Janet Brown, of Edison; and 10 grandchildren. The funeral will begin on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, a funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Perth Amboy. Interment will be in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
