Mildred (Millie) Outwater (nee Sawyer) passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. She was 98 years old.

Born in Jersey City on July 10, 1924, to the late Ellen May and Arthur Sauer, where she resided for most of her life, then in Bayonne before moving to the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Township two years ago.

In 1945 after the sudden death of her mother, she stepped in to assume the role of mother to her sister Patricia (Tootsie), who was just 9 years old at the time. With the help of her three younger brothers, she was able to keep the family together during difficult times. In 1947 she married Valentine Outwater and together they raised four sons. She loved her job as wife and mother and was always there to help in any way she could. She was a remarkable woman whose smile and good nature will be remembered by all who met her.

As her family grew, Millie loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed attending all their various after school activities. She also enjoyed reading, treasure hunting at flea markets and antique stores. Later in life, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Judge Judy.

In addition to her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Valentine Outwater; sister, Patricia Hunter; and brothers, Edward, William and James Sawyer.

She is survived by her sons, Valentine of Carteret, Christopher of Bayonne, Jeffrey and wife Antoinette of Port Reading, and Douglas of Bayonne; grandchildren, Shannon Miranda and husband Ralph, Val Outwater and wife Mary, Alyssa Dixon and husband Marc, Jeffrey Outwater and wife Mickey, and Jenna Outwater and partner Avery Fordham; and great grandchildren, Amelia, Kaiden and Wesley. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are private under the direction of Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, Woodbridge.
