Michael Florio Sr., of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 94 years old. Born in Avenel, NJ; He was a lifelong resident. Mr. Florio was a Unites States Navy Veteran serving in World War II Mr. Florio was a member of Painters local #480 North Plainfield and was employed as a Painter for Rutgers University and The Woodbridge Township Board of Education for 30 years retiring in 1984. He was a Communicant of St. Andrew's R.C. Church in Avenel; a life member of the Avenel Fire Co. #1 and served as Chief in 1952, and was a member of The Avenel Exempt Fireman Association. Mr. Florio was a 3rd degree member of The St. Andrew's Knights of Columbus Council #5088, The Avenel Democratic Club, The Avenel Golden Circle Senior Citizens, and The Avenel V.F.W. Post #7164. He was predeceased by his wife Edith M. Rivera Florio in 2012; a brother Frank Florio; eight sisters Josephine Foglia, Rose Mastrangelo, Louise Servillo, Lucy Clausnitzer, Grace Esposito, Antoinette Fisney, Clara Cavallaro, and Phyllis Figard. He is survived by his daughter Bernadette Mocarsky and her husband John of Woodbridge; a son Michael Florio, Jr., and his wife Gayle of Wichita, Kansas; a sister Janet Sacripanti of Avenel; four grandchildren Matthew Mocarsky, Karen Florio, Bryan Florio, and Kelli Florio; and five great-granddaughters. Funeral will take place Monday 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (www.Costello-Koyen.com) 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A 10:00 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. Andrew's R.C. Church in Avenel. Interment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
