Michael P. Menafro passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at AristaCare at Cedar Oaks Care Center in South Plainfield. He was 88 years old. Born in Newark, he had resided in Harrison for 50 years until moving to Woodbridge in 2002. Mr. Menafro was employed as an engraver with Caparaso Sales in Newark for close to 40 years. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a past commander of VFW Post #340 in Harrison, and was associated with VFW Post #1302 in Kearny. He was VFW past District 3 Commander 1988-89 (Hudson County), and also belonged to American Legion Post 282 in Kearny. Mr. Menafro was predeceased by his wife, May Bertha Menafro, in 2013. Surviving are two daughters, Susan Menafro of New Hampshire and Michelle Calantoni and her husband, Victor, of Woodbridge; and three grandchildren, Briana DeCarvalho and her husband, Felix, and Anthony and Deanna Calantoni. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www.costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
