Michael J. Benko, Jr. passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. He was 79 years old.

Born on September 11, 1942 in Plainfield to the late Anna and Michael J. Benko, Sr., he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township since 1967.

Mr. Benko was employed as a warehouseman with Huffman-Koos Furniture in Linden for 38 years before retiring in 2004.

He was a member of Local #177 of the Teamsters union.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Benko was predeceased by his wife, Gloria McDonnell Benko, in 1997.

Surviving are his son, Michael J. Benko III of Jersey City; sister, Patricia Cosenza, and her husband, Robert, of Cranford; and brothers, Ronald Benko and his wife, Diane, of South Plainfield and Robert Benko and his wife, Theresa, of Roselle.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel. Interment will be in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday evening from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
