With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mateo Cesar Verastegui Salcedo, who left this world peacefully on Saturday morning, April 4, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by his entire family.

Born on September 21, 1939, in Tarma, Peru, he spent his time living in Lima, Peru before eventually settling in Carteret, New Jersey, where he made it his home for the past 30 years.

He was a man of deep love and kindness, always willing to help without a second thought. A great man, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather known affectionately as "Papi Cesar", who lived with honor, cared deeply for those around him, and never hesitated to lend a hand.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Romualda Verastegui; his children Connie, Judith, Julio and his wife Georgina, Elisandra and her husband Ivan, Rocio and her husband Rene; his grandchildren Gabriella, Matthew, Sebastian, Jonathan, Anthony, Kristopher, Juliete, Emma, and Isabella; and his great-grandchild Kairo.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge, New Jersey.

Funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, 10:00am at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 7 Locust St, Carteret, NJ.
