Mary Serak Talabiska passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at her home in Woodbridge. She was 96 years old. She was born in and a lifelong resident of Woodbridge. Mary was employed as office manager with Browns Insurance in Perth Amboy for many years and was a member of Saint John's Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. Mary was a tireless volunteer, both at her church, where she was a pierogei maker for most of her life, and at Raritan Bay Medical Center and JFK Medical Center, where she donated countless hours to knitting caps for newborns. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Talabiska; her parents, Charles and Barbara Fesko Serak; two sisters, Lieutenant Commander Helen Serak, USN and Anna Serak; and a brother, John Serak. Surviving are two sons, Michael Talabiska of Nicholson, PA and David Talabiska and his wife, Lesha, of Lewisburg, PA; a sister, Barbara Kmech, of Succasunna; a brother, Michael Serak and his wife, Philomena, of Fords; her godson, Basil Charles Kmech, of Woodbridge; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint John's Orthodox Church, Perth Amboy. Interment will be in Saint John's Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with parastas services at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Saint John's Orthodox Church, 145 Broad Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.
