Mary Eileen McElroy Popovich passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at her home in Woodbridge. She was 64 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, she was a lifelong resident of Woodbridge.

Eileen was a graduate of Woodbridge High School, Class of 1975 and attended Middlesex County College where she graduated from the School of Nursing; and went on to a career in nursing working as a registered nurse at South Amboy Hospital, Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elizabeth and Roosevelt Care Center in Edison for 20 years prior to retiring 20 years ago; and was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge

She was predeceased by her parents, Marilyn and Gerald McElroy; and sister, Rosemary Gatto.

Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Michael Popovich; daughters, Katherine Popovich and her fiancé Jeffrey Smith of Woodbridge and Kristin Popovich of Woodbridge; sisters, Susan Sherman of East Northport, NY and Erin Surowitch of South Amboy; brother, Gerald McElroy, of Chesapeake, VA; and grandchildren, Adrianna and Michael; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org), 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Mrs. Popovich's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
