Manuel Montero passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He was 69 years old.

Born in Carracedo, Galicia, Spain he resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for most of his life before moving to Monroe Township 2 years ago.

Mr. Montero was employed as a longshoreman with Maersk Sealand Corporation in Elizabeth for 46 years before his retirement in 2015.

He was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel; belonged to Centro Ourensano Social Club in Newark; and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Montero was predeceased by his parents, Pura and Lisardo Montero; and brother, Jose Montero.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Liliana Martinez Montero; children, Karina Montero of Falls Church, VA and Manuel Montero of Avenel; and sisters, Marina Rodriguez of Harrison, Candita Montero of Kearny and Rosa Suarez of Spain.

Funeral services were private under the direction of Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, Avenel. A memorial Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at a future date.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (giving.mskcc.org) in Manuel's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
