Joseph "Sonny" Maiorana passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 86 years old. Born in Newark, he resided in Irvington before moving to the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township 51 years ago. Mr. Maiorana was employed as a driver with F&A Distributors in Bayonne for 20 years before retiring in 1989. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Nanni Maiorana, in 1990; his parents, Mary and Frank Maiorana; and two sisters, Frances Nanni and Lucy Werner. Surviving are a son, Joseph Maiorana and his wife, Donna, of Avenel; a sister, Mary Ann DelPizzo, of Toms River; three grandchildren, Danielle, Joseph and Daria Maiorana; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 8:15 a.m. from the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:15 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, North Madison Avenue, Avenel. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
