Joseph Francis Cornacchia passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 71 years old.
He was born on December 30, 1949 in Newark, NJ and resided in Avenel most of his life.
He started his teaching career as a math teacher in Weequahic High School in Newark. He continued his career in Woodbridge Township School District in Avenel Middle School and Colonia High School. He was a department head of math at Colonia High School. After retiring in 2010, he went to Middlesex County College as a math professor retiring in 2018.
He was a devoted director for the CCD program in Avenel at St. Andrews Church.
He was a die-hard sports fan of the NY Rangers, NY Giants football team and the San Francisco Giants baseball team with whom he enjoyed watching with his son Joey.
He was a devoted father to his children and grandson Elliott. He was also looking forward to his new grandchild as well.
He enjoyed the music of the Beatles and had a great sense of humor.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary Cursi Cornacchia; and brother-in-law Tom Smith.
Joseph is survived by his devoted wife Elaine Cornacchia; his son Joseph Cornacchia; his daughters Sandra Lugo, Christina Cassano and her husband Matthew; his grandchildren Elliott Lugo and future baby Cassano; his beloved sister Linda Smith; three beloved sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday December 23, 2021 at 9:15 am from Costello- Koyen Funeral (costello-koyen.com) at 399 Avenel Street Avenel, NJ 07001 followed by a Funeral Liturgy at St. Andrews Church in Avenel at 10:00 am. Entombment will take place at St Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation for family and friends will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday December 22, 2021 from 3:00pm-7:00 pm.
