Jose Antonio Melendez passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 75 years old.

Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, he has resided in East Brunswick since 2018.

Jose was a proud Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War, throughout his service he acquired numerous medals including the National defense service medal, Vietnam service medal, Vietnam campaign medal and sharpshooter (RIFLEM14).

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Linda, in 2012.

Surviving are his children, Traci Melendez of Staten Island, Michael Melendez of Keansburg, Marc Melendez of Carteret, Christopher Melendez and his wife Bridgette of North Brunswick; his daughter of the heart Dina Melendez of Avenel; six grandchildren; Alex, Devin, Michael, Peter, Danielle, Myles and one great grandchild, Julia Grace. One sister Luz O'Hara of Toms River and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel.
