José F. Lugo Vélez of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. He was 76 years old. Born in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, he has resided in Avenel since 1991. He was a United States Army Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1960. Mr. Lugo Vélez was a 1960 graduate of Escuela Aristides Cales Quiroz in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico where he was Class President. He was employed as a teacher with The Puerto Rico Department of Education, Guayanilla from 1964 until 1969, Training Director, PPG Industries Chemical Division from 1969 until 1971, Human Resources Director & Adjunct Professor of Psychology, Inter American University of Puerto Rico from 1971 until 1976, Human Resource Manager, Digital Equipment Corporation from 1976 until 1992, Vice President Broad National Bank from 1992 until 1996, Adjunct Professor Berkely Business College from 1996 until 1998, Senior Account Executive, AllState Mortgage Corporation from 1997 until 1998, Human Resource Manager at Ideal Farms / Tropical Cheese Industries from 1998 until 1999, and was serving as a Teacher / Administrator for the Perth Amboy Board of Education since 1999. He was predeceased by his parents Timoteo Lugo and Marina Velez. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Brunilda Pagn Lugo; 4 children, José Francisco Lugo, Jr. and his wife, Andrea, of Avenel, Brunilda Amarilis and her husband, Jason Fabritz, of Silver Spring, Maryland, Francisco José Lugo of Avenel and José Adolfo Lugo of Silver Spring, Maryland; five grandchildren Adriana Lugo, Thomas Lugo, Gabriella Lugo, Victor Fabritz Lugo, and Nestor Fabritz Lugo; five brothers and sisters Nereida "Nelly" Lugo, Pastor Lugo, Marta Lugo, Consuelo "Didi" Lugo, Leonard Lugo, Tito Lugo, Hismenio Lugo and Carmen Lugo. Funeral will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (www.Costello-koyen.com) 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew R.C. Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Puerto Rico. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
