Jose Felipe Gomes passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 83 years old. Born in Foz do Arelho, Portugal, he resided in North Arlington and Kearny before moving to the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township 20 years ago. Mr. Gomes was self-employed as a caterer mechanic for many years before his retirement. He was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel; and belonged to the Portuguese Club of Newark. Surviving are his wife, Gracinda Vasques Gomes; two daughters, Isabel M. Gomes, of Toms River and Celeste R. Gomes of Avenel; four grandchildren, Silvia R. Felix, Caroline G. Gomes, Jose C. Felix, Jr. and Lucas A. Gomes; and a great granddaughter, Abaigeal Rose Gomes.
