Jong Youn Ra passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 84 years old.

Born in Seoul, South Korea on December 24, 1935, he came to the United States in 1972 and has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for the past 30 years.

Mr. Ra was employed by Rick Brothers Truck Bodies in Avenel as a mechanic prior to his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and was well known for always having a camera or video camera on hand to capture life's precious moments.

He was a longtime respected leader in the Central Jersey Korean community, always available to fellow countrymen to lend a hand or offer advice.

Mr. Ra was predeceased by his parents, Tae Soon and Duk Chun Ra; and grandson, Victor Yee, Jr.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Choon Cha Ra; children, Michael Ra of Wayne, Jeannie Ra of East Brunswick, Minnie Heiser of Carmel, CA, You Chung Torok of Cheshire, CT and Pat Todero of Browns Mills; and twelve grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Vander Hoven Chapel on the grounds of Hazel Wood Cemetery, Rahway. Interment will follow in Hazel Wood Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the chapel.
