John J. Zsamba of Spotswood, formerly of Woodbridge, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 80 years old.
Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Woodbridge Township for several decades before moving to Little Egg Harbor with his beloved wife of 37 years, Annette Lanza Zsamba, in the late 2000s. The couple relocated to Spotswood roughly one year ago.
Mr. Zsamba was a master carpenter and retired 15 years ago from the local carpenters' union in Woodbridge. A man of entrepreneurial spirit, his legacy also includes forming his own construction company and opening two fish and chip restaurants in the state. Though since closed, his spirit, vision, and passion for cooking—especially his revered Thanksgiving stuffing and apricot cookies—live on.
Mr. Zsamba was predeceased by his parents, John J. Zsamba, Sr., and Julia Kender Zsamba, and grandson Anthony Zsamba.
Known to most as "Pop," he is survived by: Annette; daughter Lisa Maloney and son-in-law Tommy; son Wayne Zsamba and wife Danielle; son Kevin Zsamba and wife Nikki; cherished grandchildren Brianna, Chase, Antonio John, Gavin, Kevin, and Ryan; great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Visiting services will be held on Friday, February 8 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( www.Costello-greiner.com) , located at 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue in Woodbridge. Cremation will be private.
